European Neighbours Day - Ballymun, 2005

European Neighbours Day was held on Tuesday,
May 31st 2005. Throughout Europe,
local authorities invited communities
to participate in a get together
to discuss in a friendly atmosphere
their everyday issues and conflicts.

This event took place on the same
day throughout Europe and aimed at a
European union of hearts and minds,
at a more open, social and friendly
society not only in towns, but also
in cities and countries all gathered
over a common project all over the
European Union.

Every European City is faced
with growing social indifference
and lack of solidarity among its citizens.
Now worldwide communications seems
easier than having a chat with your
neighbours down the hall or across the street.

The European Neighbours Day
aims at socializing and enhancing
local solidarity. Indeed, it is our
responsibility to encourage a more
convivial neighbourhood in this
world threatened by the rise of
individualism. We want to get the
people of Europe to get to know
each other better. They can simply
organise a neighbourhood party in
their courtyard, in their street
or simply in their garden.

This was the first such initiative
and it is hoped that with the support
of the community this will become an annual event.

To mark the occasion of
European Neighbours Day,
Dublin City Council with the
co-operation of Ballymun Neighbourhood Council
invited neighbours and residents
to a coffee morning between 10.00am
and 12.30pm on Tuesday May 31st in
the following venues:

Poppintree Estate/Forum Office

Sillogue Estate Office
